Good Bye to Orkut

A Farewell to Orkut

Just a moment ago I got an email from Google saying,”We will shut down Orkut on September 30, 2014.”.

It’s been a decade since Orkut was first launched. Millions of us had created accounts on it and used it quite actively for a few years. But later it was beaten by FaceBook.com in 2006-2007 when everyone started to switch to FB. Since almost 2008 there haven’t been any updates to Orkut. In 2011 Google Lauched plus.google.com and allowed Orkut users to import all the images and details into it.

Now that Google Plus have been there for a while. Google have decided to shut down Orkut.

How to back up Orkut data?

You can export your profile data, community posts and photos using Google Takeout (available until September 2016). “We are preserving an archive of all public communities, which will be available online starting September 30, 2014. If you don’t want your posts or name to be included in the community archive, you can remove Orkut permanently from your Google account.” says Google.

We will miss Orkut and those early years of social networking. “Good bye Orkut”
